Combined
Heat and Power, often referred to as cogeneration
or CHP, is a highly efficient energy solution which has
an important part to play in Ireland’s climate change
strategy and overall energy policy. This website is aimed
at explaining what
CHP is all about, its
benefits, how it stands today in Ireland and where
to go for further information... |
|
Welcome to the website of the Irish CHP Association
which is a representative body for the Combined Heat and Power
sector in Ireland, North and South. The Irish CHP Association
has now been established to promote greater uptake
of CHP, spread information and lobby for appropriate change
to the CHP economic and operating environment. The association
is broad-based including CHP
developers, equipment suppliers, consultants and all other
interested organisations and individuals.
The formation of the association follows a
consensus among most CHP Players in Ireland that if the sector
is to prosper (as it does in other European Countries) then
a central voice is needed to lobby for change in the business
and regulatory environment for CHP. A central voice can also
raise the profile of CHP and create greater customer awareness.
Work to date ...
Already the Association has made a significant
impact in the CHP community. It has made influential submissions
on a range of energy policy consultations including electricity
market trading rules and the regime for emissions trading. It
lobbies regulators and government departments in pursuit of
its objectives and has participated actively in the work of
COGEN Europe
- one of the key influencers of European Union policy on CHP.
Join the Asociation
The Association is actively seeking
members. A committee has been formed, chaired by Martin
Tynan of Glanbia. The Association is administered, by The Irish
CHP Association c/o IBEC.
Please browse the site where you'll find the ICHPA
Prospectus, a Guide
to CHP in Ireland and details of how to Join
the Irish CHP Association.
Also any comments
/ feedback are most welcome.

Sustainable Energy Ireland - CHP Deployment Programme
Noel Dempsey, T.D., Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources launched an €11M combined heat and power deployment programme, which will be administered by SEI. Full press release.
The new SEI CHP Deployment Programme will provide grant support to assist the deployment of small-scale (<1MWe) fossil fired CHP and biomass (anaerobic digestion (AD) and wood residue) CHP systems. It supersedes the “Combined Heat and Power RD&D” Programme.
Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) will now accept applications for small-scale fossil fuel units within the range of greater than 50kWe and less than 1MWe.
Later this year SEI will begin a micro-CHP pilot and launch a separate “call for proposals” specifically targeting biomass CHP.
Further information on the new CHP deployment programme can be found on the SEI website.

CHP EVALUATION TOOL |

Are you Considering a CHP Project?
Thanks to assistance from Sustainable
Energy Ireland the Irish CHP
Association has constructed an Online
CHP Evaluation tool to help site-owners,
developers and all those who are considering the
CHP option.
The CHP Tool is very simple to
use and will give a reasonable indication of the
feasibility (and payback time) of a CHP solution
based on basic information about your current
site energy consumption, costs, and site operating
hours.

Are you thinking of installing CHP?
There are a large number of licences and
approvals that need to be obtained in order
to construct and operate a CHP facility in
Ireland, each of which is required under a
specific piece of legislation.
Information on the legislative context, as
well as specific details on the process to obtain
each of these licences and approvals, is provided
via this website and this is divided into four
distinct sections.
Copies of application forms
and details of how to apply for these licences
and approvals are provided within each section
